While it may not be as hyped as the big battle shonen anime of the season such as Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War and Chainsaw Man, Bocchi the Rock! is getting quite a bit of interest, especially as fans discovered that the show’s Kessoku Band made a cameo appearance in a previous anime.

Specifically, the Kessoku Band is formed by the show’s three main characters, and they appeared in another slice-of-life anime entitled Slow Loop that aired in the Winter 2022 season.

About Bocchi the Rock!

In case you’re unfamiliar, Bocchi the Rock! is an anime series by CloverWorks that’s based on the manga of the same name by Aki Hamaji.

As you may have guessed based on its title ("hitori-bocchi" means alone or lonely in Japanese), the series follows Hitori Gotou, a high school girl who dreams of being in a band but is too shy to join one.

Her luck soon changes as she meets Nijika Ijichi, a girl who plays drums and is looking for a new guitarist for her band. Soon, Hitori joins the Kessoku Band with Nijika, Ryo Yamada, and Ikuyo Kita.

The show is one of the ongoing Fall 2022 season’s many shows, and it is quickly gaining fans for its chill and cute appeal. Some have even called it the season’s hidden gem.

While the show just premiered on October 9, some eagle-eyed fans already spotted the Kessoku Band members in another anime entitled Slow Loop.

Even back in March, some fans on MyAnimeList noticed that the band made a blink-or-you’ll-miss-it appearance in Slow Loop Episode 10, specifically during the school festival.

Bocchi the Rock!’s Kessoku Band making an early appearance might seem unexpected, but it makes sense as the original manga is published by Houbunsha, the same publisher as the Slow Loop manga.

About Slow Loop

As for Slow Loop, it’s an anime series by studio Connect that’s based on the manga of the same name by Maiko Uchino.

Much like Bocchi the Rock!, Slow Loop is a chill slice-of-life series. It follows Hiyori Yamakawa, a girl who loves fly fishing – a hobby that she picked up from her father who passed away.

Three years after her father’s passing, Hiyori’s mother decided to remarry. As Hiyori grows anxious about the meeting with her mother’s fiancé, she decides to spend some time fly fishing.

The Slow Loop anime aired between January and March 2022. Meanwhile, Bocchi the Rock! is currently airing, with new episodes being released every week on Crunchyroll.
