There's a lot of anticipation right now for Dune: Part Two following the success of the first film last year both critically and at the box office as well as its award nominations including the coveted Best Picture at the upcoming 94th Academy Awards. Given that the sequel will cover the second half, it is expected to feature new characters from the novel that haven't been introduced yet, and, now, we finally know the first new cast member who will be joining Paul Atreides' next journey.
Deadline has reported that Black Widow star Florence Pugh is in negotiations to join Dune: Part Two. She will play Princess Irulan Corrino, the eldest daughter of Emperor Shaddam IV that Paul will eventually marry to secure his position as the ruler of the universe. Production for the film is set to commence later this year.
Pugh will be joining returning cast members such as Timothee Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Zendaya, Josh Brolin, Javier Bardem, Stellan Skarsgard, and Dave Bautista. Denis Villeneuve will also return to direct and co-write as well as composer Hans Zimmer.
This is an exciting piece of casting news since Pugh is obviously a wonderful actress as we've seen in films such as Midsommar, Fighting with My Family, and her MCU role of Yelena Belova in Black Widow and Hawkeye. She is definitely perfect for the role of Princess Irulan. It would also serve as a reunion between her and Chalamet since they both played love interests before in the 2019 film adaptation of Little Women.
If you have read the novel, you'll know that Princess Irulan will have a significant role in the next film and will play a key figure in Paul Atreides' journey as he becomes the ruler of the universe. It would be interesting to see who they'll cast on the other two key roles: Emperor Shaddam IV and Feyd-Rautha. We should be hearing more casting news in the next few weeks or months as it is set to start filming this summer.

Dune: Part Two is currently scheduled to be released in theaters on October 20, 2023.
