Black Widow Star Florence Pugh Explains Why She Joined The MCU

Florence Pugh might be relatively new to the Hollywood film industry, however, the actress has been having a great year this year, appearing in films like Ari Aster's modern and trippy horror movie Midsommar and the upcoming Oscar-contending live-action adaptation of Little Women.

The English actress is also set to appear in Black Widow next year, proving her versatility as an actress. Speaking in an interview with Cinema Blend to help promote her upcoming movie, Little Women (the actress plays the part of Amy in the newest live-action adaptation of the beloved literary classic), Pugh tries to explain why she decided to take on a role in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe entry.

According to Pugh the biggest reason why joined Black Widow was that she loved what she read in the film's script and that she loved the film's director, Cate Shortland.

"I loved the script, and I love Cate Shortland. And I think everything that they're trying to do with that film is make it as painful and as real and as gritty as possible and it was exactly like that when we made it," the actress explained, "And that was a really nice thing to get to, and of course I got to be with the Black Widow and watch her work, which was pretty amazing considering she's been the only female superhero for the past 10 years."

Fans might have expected Pugh to have been drawn to the allure of the MCU, but it seems like the biggest reason why the actress wanted in on Black Widow was because of the film's content. The Natasha Romanoff standalone movie was written by Ned Benson and Jac Schaeffer, and it looks like the work the two did on the film's script was pretty great.

Pugh is set to play the part of Yelena Belova in the upcoming MCU entry. Black Widow is set to premiere on May 1, 2020.
