There is little doubt that the stars of Marvel Cinematic Universe are careful about dropping spoilers when they do interviews. Rachel Weisz has understandably been wary of that and she was completely shocked when possible Black Widow spoilers were dropped by Jimmy Kimmel in his latest show.
Weisz was recently a virtual guest on Jimmy Kimmel Live! where the host introduced her as Melina Vostokoff. Once Weisz was on, she was quick to point out that they are prohibited from saying Melina's second name since it's a "Marvel Cinematic Universe secret."
Kimmel seemed unfazed about the reveal and continued with the interview by making a different MCU joke. However, the little spoiler could have fans realizing a bit more about Weisz's role in Black Widow.
In the comics, Vostokoff is a former agent of the Russian government who lived in the shadow of the legendary Black Widow. She is also known as Iron Maiden and she greatly resents Black Widow even after she became a freelance assassin. At one point, she is hired to take down Black Widow but is stopped by Agent Jimmy Woo.
So does this mean that Weisz's character might actually be the real villain in Black Widow? We're hoping that it isn't so. Nevertheless, we look forward to seeing Melina in action this July.
Black Widow is directed by Cate Shortland and also stars Scarlett Johansson, Florence Pugh, David Harbour, William Hurt, O-T Fagbenie, and Ray Winstone. The film is currently scheduled for release on July 9, 2021.
