Black Widow Actor Says That Russia Likely Wants Their Own Avengers

Black Widow has been delayed ever since the pandemic caused a global shutdown. The movie is now going to the theaters and Disney+ this summer. This will give the fans to see the origin of Scarlet Johansson's Natasha Romanoff, also known as Black Widow. The movie will also introduce a variety of her supporting characters. This includes the Red Guardian, played by David Harbour, who is a member of Russia's Winter Guard.

The Red Guardian is already assured to make an appearance in the film, Harbour shared a character poster, teasing the Winter Guard. The actor even dropped some names such as Crimson Dynamo and Ursa Major. The movie will cover most of Black Widow's backstory which makes it possible that the characters will appear. Harbour also stated that his character is the Russian counterpart of Captain America, which suggested that Russia may likely want their own version of Avengers.

In an interview with The Wrap in 2020, Harbour mentioned that his character is closely connected to Natasha back in the day. There is a family dynamic as he is a bit of a fatherly figure to Natasha. A number of years have gone by and the Red Guardian is already past his prime.

In Marvel Comics, the Red Guardian first came out in Avengers #43 in 1967 which was drawn by John Buscema and written by Roy Thomas. The storyline in that comic had Black Widow kidnapped by Colonel Ling. The Avengers attempt to rescue her as Red Guardian also joins to save her.

Black Widow will be released on July 9, both in the theaters and Disney+.
