Black Panther: Why Ulysses Klaue Is Trying To Bring Down Wakanda

Though Andy Serkis' Ulysses Klaue was introduced as an enemy of Wakanda in Avengers: Age of Ultron back in 2015, we just know he's a guy who likes Vibranium. As it turns out, there's a bit more to Klaue's motivations, and Serkis explains that his feud with T'Challa is personal.

Speaking to IGN, Serkis says:

"He also wants to expose what he thinks is the hypocrisy of Wakanda. That's really what drives him. As well as his addiction to vibranium."

In the comics, Klaue (or Klaw) has been a longtime rival of the Black Panther. He was responsible for the death of T'Challa's father in the books, but seeing as it was Baron Zemo who orchestrated the death of Wakanda's leader in Civil War, Black Panther will have to pull out another reason for Klaue to keep terrorizing Wakanda.

Klaw wields a prosthetic sonar emitter in the comics and it perfectly counters any armor that T'Challa has on. In Avengers 2, Klaue had lost his hand to Ultron, and in the new trailer, we get a brief glimpse of his new robot hand in action. Hopefully we get a better look at it as the movie's release gets nearer.

I really like Andy Serkis as an actor, and I'm very excited to see more of his Klaue in Black Panther. He's provided us with some great characters over the years, and with Klaue, I think he's bringing in someone who is not only funny but a competent villain as well.

Black Panther hits theaters Feb. 16, 2018.
