It looks like Marvel's just brought back director Ryan Coogler to write and direct the sequel to Black Panther.
The first almost all-black comic book movie in history, Black Panther was a huge critical and commercial success for Marvel. Not only did the film earn more than 1.3 billion USD at the global box, but it also received wave after wave of positive reviews from fans and critics, proving to Hollywood that moviegoers wanted diversity and representation in their movies.
Now, riding on the film's success, it looks like Marvel is ready to send Coogler back to Wakanda. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Coogler is being brought back to work for Marvel Studios to write and direct Black Panther 2 with production set to begin sometime late 2019 or early 2020.
Fans may have been expecting Coogler to return to work on Black Panther 2 ever since the first Black Panther standalone movie opened this year, however, it's nice to see Marvel confirming the director taking the reins of the film's sequel. Besides, the director had been signing up for other projects since Black Panther, so it took the director some time to decide whether or not he'd work on Black Panther 2.
Right now, there's very little information about the plot of the film. While fans are a bit concerned about Chadwick Boseman's return as T'Challa knowing that he was one of the Avengers that got turned into dust in Avengers: Infinity War, many are expecting him to reprise his role in the Black Panther sequel.
Black Panther 2 doesn't have a release date but we'll update everyone as soon as we get word.
