Black Mirror Officially Returning for Sixth Season

It's been three years now since the fifth season of Black Mirror premiered on Netflix and fans have been wondering if we will ever get to see another season of the hit anthology series. There have been rumors that they might not return due to rights issues while some believe that the real-life events make it unlikely to return as we are now living in the "real-life Black Mirror." Now, it looks like our long wait might be over soon as the series is now set to make its return.

Variety has reported that the sixth season of Black Mirror is currently in the works at Netflix and casting is now also underway. The details regarding the stories for the next installment are still under wraps, but it will have more episodes than the fifth season (which had 3 episodes) and they will be more cinematic in scope as each episode is being treated as an individual film.

The fifth season of Black Mirror premiered in June 2019 with Anthony Mackie, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Andrew Scott, Topher Grace, Miley Cyrus, and Angourie Rice starring in the episodes.

The next season will be produced by Charlie Brooker and Annabel Jones' production company Broke & Jones rather than House of Tomorrow. There were also rights issues before that prevented a new season from happening. When Brooke and Jones left House of Tomorrow, the rights to the show remained with Endemol Shine Group, which was ultimately acquired by Banijay Group in the summer of 2020. Eventually, a deal was finally reached as Banijay licensed the series to Netflix paving a way for an official sixth season renewal.

It is exciting to hear that Black Mirror is officially getting a sixth season as fans have been patiently waiting for updates regarding another installment of the series, especially with the real-life events that are currently happening which seem to make them clamor for more episodes of the series to see their take on the new technological and social issues today. It is very interesting to see what kind of stories Brooker has in store for the next season.
