Black Mask will be the Villain of Birds of Prey

It's been rumored for a while that the villain for Birds of Prey would be a Batman rogue, and now news has it that the film's big bad has finally been revealed.

According to The Wrap, Black Mask will be the main adversary in Birds of Prey. We don't know exactly what his M.O. is, but the synopsis might give us a clue:

"After [splitting] up with The Joker, Harley Quinn and three other female superheroes – Black Canary, Huntress, and Renee Montoya – come together to save the life of a little girl (Cassandra Cain) from an evil crime lord."

My best guess is that Black Mask is some kind of human trafficker. He could be something else, but it totally makes sense for the character to be in that line of business.

Black Mask is one of the more obscure villains from Batman's rogues gallery, but that doesn't make him any less scary. In the comics, he turns Catwoman's sister Maggie insane by killing her husband in front of him—then force-feeding her his eyes.

It's been rumored that this Birds of Prey film is going to be R-Rated, and I hope they don't waste an opportunity to make Black Mask as despicable as he could be. With Margot Robbie playing the perfect Harley, I'm hoping they realize the full potential of Black Mask before they kill him off in the DCEU.

Now I'm kind of bummed that Catwoman isn't in this movie.

No release date has been set for Birds of Prey, but the film could come out sometime in 2020.
