Black Adam Star Quintessa Swindell Shares How ‘Natural’ It Feels To Work With Noah Centineo

While Noah Centineo recently reported having to cut through his Atom Smasher suit after suffering a set injury, he’s back to promote and share more about behind the scenes of working with co-star Quintessa Swindell, who will be playing Cyclone in the Black Adam film.

The cute little relationship between Atom Smasher and Cyclone

Quintessa Swindell and Noah Centineo sat down for an interview with CBR to share their experience working on set. When asked about the chemistry of their characters and working together, Quintessa says, “It was beautiful. For me, it came so naturally because working with Noah, he just, like, brightens up every single room that he’s in.” She even adds how it helps when it’s time to do their job, “It’s literally impossible not to laugh and not joke around and just not feel as comfortable as I possibly can. Like, [Noah] just makes everything so easy.”

Noah bashfully taps her, with Quintessa responding the same way, showing how close the two have grown, being in the same project. Atom Smasher Actor Noah emphasizes, “You gotta have that balance. You know, [the film] has got to. . .There has to be levity. It’s super important. What a cast, man. What a group of creatives putting this thing together.”

Aside from the evident chemistry between the actors, and soon, their characters in theater screens, Centineo also shares what it was like for him to bring his character, Al, to life. From his point of view, he wouldn’t want to change or do anything with the design of the suit since it was a ‘hand-me-down’ from his character’s uncle, and how that adds to the layers of ‘building a character profile of having an uncle that was a superhero, a grandfather that was a villain’.

“I would like to think even privilege — kind of [inform] the way that Al walks into a room and how he shares his nervousness or his excitement, it was just great. So much source material — there’s so much information on that. I think what’s also very cool is that this film takes place before a lot of comics, and we can grow into that person. Setting that foundation in Black Adam was great.”

Quintessa describes ‘Maxine Hunkell’ Cyclone as her ‘bread and butter’

As for Quintessa, when asked how she would be able to juggle the ‘darker edges’ of her character, Maxine, without letting it define her, the actress defines it as ‘bread and butter.’ She shares that Maxine has ‘such an emotional depth’ after going up against what hasn’t been easy for her, and yet she’s been chosen to rise above and do her duty to the role.

“This is her actively choosing, ‘I’m going to do this, and I’m going to be a part of this team. I’m going to walk right in the front door and be rested and who I am and still even figure out who that is.’ So for me, it was just incredible. I’m so thankful that I was able to play this character because these young femme film characters do not come around often.”

Black Adam is set to premiere on October 21.
