Black Adam Star Dwayne Johnson Responded to Marvel vs. DC Debate

Although to some, it may not seem like a battle, the fight at the box office between Marvel and DC continues. As the entire DCEU consistently goes through a lot of changes, despite Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson’s upcoming Black Adam film soon to be released in theaters, the MCU continues its consecutive success with the upcoming release of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

When it comes to world-building and connecting several on-screen comic book worlds, the MCU is by far the best example of it. The example that Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige have set is one that Warner Bros. (and several others) have been trying to imitate for a long time.

In a recent interview with the Associated Press during the Black Adam premiere event in New York City, Black Adam actor Dwayne Johnson addressed the battle between Marvel and DC on the big screen, speaking his thoughts in a measured and diplomatic manner as one can.

During the interview, Johnson said, “And do I think we are going to take any kind of bite out of Marvel? That answer is unequivocally no. Because to me as we build out the DC universe, ushering in a new era of the DC Universe, that to me is not my lead foot. It’s not our goal to take a bite out of Marvel. What they’ve done is incredible. What Kevin Feige’s done is incredible."

Dwayne Johnson also thanked Marvel Studios and the MCU for being "the economic drive of [the movie business] for almost two decades," while also saying that “We don’t want to be Marvel. We want to be DC. And how we do things. So that’s what I want. I don’t want to take a bite of that apple. I want to grab a new apple. And I want to create from there.”

DCEU’s Black Adam is set to be released in theaters on October 21, 2022 while MCU’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is scheduled to be released on November 11, 2022.
