The DC Universe unquestionably acquired another influential actor with Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson's arrival as Black Adam. Amazingly, alongside The Rock as the titular anti-hero, the franchise also triumphantly landed another critically-acclaimed actor, Pierce Brosnan, set to play Doctor Fate in the upcoming film. Given Doctor Fate's vast set of abilities in DC Comics, can Black Adam really do justice to the character?
At last week's San Diego Comic-Con, Black Adam producers Beau Flynn and Hiram Garcia spoke to Screenrant at Warner Bros. Press line and were asked about how they planned to do justice with Pierce Brosnan's Doctor Fate's powers. According to them, bringing the character's comically-accurate set of power into live-action remained a top priority.
"[With] Doctor Fate, we can pay tribute to Pierce Brosnan," Flynn said. "One of the great actors of all time, and I think Dr. Fate is also such a unique, very powerful hero that people want to know a ton about."
Whereas Garcia strongly approves. "I agree. I think Hawkman obviously is fantastic, but the fun thing about Fate is that we have the technology to do Fate and take care of him the right way," he added. "Because Fate is one of those guys that is hard to do practical; you've got to have some technology on your side. To be able to bring him to screen and know what a fan-favorite he is? That's really exciting."
What makes Brosnan's debut as Doctor Fate more compelling is that the character was always comprehended as a DC rip-off of Marvel's Doctor Strange – currently played by Benedict Cumberbatch. With the character's arrival, fans would surely pit Doctor Fate against Doctor Strange, and would probably contest which character has the most accurate portrayal of powers. That said, Black Adam is already under tremendous pressure not just for The Rock's titular hero, but also for Brosnan's Doctor Fate.
Alongside The Rock and Brosnan, they will be joined by Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, Jennifer Holland as Emilia Harcourt, Noah Centineo as Albert Rothstein, and Sarah Shahi as Isis.
Black Adam will hit the big screens on October 21.
