There are a lot of things that people are already expecting in Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn). For instance, some believe that main villain Roman Sionis might actually be in a relationship with Victor Zsasz. So is Black Mask gay? Ewan McGregor has just addressed the rumors about his DC Extended Universe character.
McGregor recently attended the Birds of Prey Harlywood exhibit in Hollywood where he and co-star Chris Messina were asked about the relationship between Roman and Victor. Not surprisingly, the two decided to play coy.
"It's very complicated," McGregor told Variety. "Their relationship is very much based…there's a want and a need in there for sure."
Messina agreed with McGregor, saying that "there's like a real love of anarchy." This is when the Trainspotting actor interjected and stated, "More than likely, yes." The two then laughed about their response.
We're not sure why they are choosing to be ambiguous about Roman and Victor's true status. After all, people have been talking about Black Mask being portrayed as gay in Birds of Prey for some time now. For now, we'll have to wait until the premiere of the film to find out for sure.
Birds of Prey is directed by Cathy Yan and stars Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Black Canary, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Huntress, Rosie Perez as Renee Montoya, and Ella Jay Basco as Cassandra Cain. The movie will hit theaters on February 7.
