Birds Of Prey Lands Its New Cassandra Cain

It looks like the casting for Warner Brother's Birds of Prey is coming along nicely. Earlier this month, the studio just cast Star Wars actor Ewan McGregor as the DC Extended Universe's new Black Mask for its Birds of Prey movie. Today, the studio just named its new Cassandra Cain.

According to a new report by Variety, Warner Brothers has just recently cast Hollywood newcomer Ella Jay Basco in Birds of Prey's last major role, Cassandra Cain. With Basco currently in negotiations to suit up as the DCEU's Cassandra Cain, this new report shuts down earlier rumors saying that Warner Brothers was considering Peyton Elizabeth Lee from Andi Mack for the part.

While Lee has had some time on the big screen, Basco is a newcomer to the scene, appearing in a single episode of Grey's Anatomy and a single episode of Veep. If Birds of Prey does well, this new part could very well become a breakout role for Basco.

When negotiations are completed, Basco will join Margo Robbie who will return as Harley Quinn, Mary Elizabeth Winstead who will take on the part of Huntress, and Jurnee Smollett-Bell who will be playing the film's Black Canary.

Though information about Birds of Prey is scarce as of the moment, Variety writes that Harley, Huntress and Black Canary will be teaming up to protect Cassandra after the character stumbles across a diamond owned by Black Mask, a major kingpin in the Gotham underworld.

Batman fans might know Cain as Batgirl, however, we have yet to see whether the Batgirl element will be included in Birds of Prey.

Birds of Prey is scheduled to premiere on February 7, 2020.
