Birds of Prey Casts Rosie Perez as Det. Renee Montoya

DCEU's Birds of Prey sure is picking up steam. The movie already has three actresses cast in principal roles and they've just added one more to the roster, which leaves only one slot left for the Birds.

According to The Wrap, Birds of Prey has cast Rosie Perez as Det. Renee Montoya. Perez herself has earned an Oscar nomination for her work on Fearless, and she joins a cast which includes the likes of Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Mary Elizabeth Winstead (The Huntress), and Jurnee Smollett-Bell (Black Canary).

With Perez's casting, now the only slot left to fill in for the film is that of Cassandra Cain, who is rumored to be a young 12-year-old girl in this movie. It's also been confirmed that Batgirl won't appear in this film, but an appearance from Barbara Gordon has not been ruled out.

In the comics, Montoya was a detective working at the GCPD, and she was also openly gay. By the time the New 52 came rolling in, Montoya had assumed the alter ego of The Question. I don't expect her to become the Question in Birds of Prey, but I'm guessing she's going to be serving as the moral compass of the group—what with being a cop and all.

It seems that Birds of Prey really has a firm footing when it comes to production, and everything seems to be going smoothly for the film. Cathy Yan is set to direct, and Robbie herself is even attached as a producer. Talk about girl power onscreen and off.

Catch the Birds of Prey in theaters Feb. 7, 2020.
