Bird Box Spin-Off Set in Spain Confirmed for Netflix

It's time to return to the world of the sightless. Netflix has confirmed that a Bird Box spin-off is currently in the works and this time, it will take place in Spain.

The Hollywood Reporter confirms that Netflix has enlisted Carriers directors Alex and David Pastor to helm the spin-off feature that will be set in the filmmaker's home country. Dylan Clark and Chris Morgan, who had produced the Sandra Bullock film back in 2018, will return to produce the new project with Adrián Guerra and Núria Valls' Nostromo Pictures.

For now, details about the upcoming feature have not yet been revealed. The only thing that was confirmed is that the spin-off will be in Spanish and is set in Spain. In addition to that, Netflix is determined to get the project started as soon as possible and it could begin production by the end of the year.

Bird Box was undoubtedly one of Netflix's biggest films in 2018. The movie, which was an adaptation of the novel by Josh Malerman, followed a woman named Malorie as she tries to find a sanctuary for herself and two children in a world where mysterious creatures can force one to kill themselves simply by looking at them.

Malerman had previously released a sequel to his novel after the release of the Bird Box film adaptation. The book, titled Malorie, follows the woman after the events in the first novel and finds Malorie and the children in a new location where her parents might have been living all this time. The book was released in July 2020.
