Alongside Cumberbatch, MCU newcomer Xochitl Gomez's America Chavez and Benedict Wong's Wong join Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange in fixing the turmoil in the multiverse, which is surprisingly caused by MCU vet Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch. While we're all happy with the Doctor Strange sequel's arrival, it looks like fans would have to wait a little longer for a potential threequel.

In an interview with IGN at the premiere of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Benedict Cumberbatch opens up about his future in the franchise. While talking about the different variants of his titular hero in the MCU sequel, the actor revealed that he would love to swap places with a 'less busy' variant of himself. Cumberbatch said, "It gets very multiversal in real life as well. I guess [I would be] one that's less busy, maybe... I might be that very soon, which is nice -- taking a bit of a break."

Although Cumberbatch didn't indicate how long he will be gone, fans don't have to worry about the actor's role as the MCU's fan-favorite sorcerer, as he will certainly return. If you haven't watched Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness yet, the ending seemingly hints at multiple storylines that could still be explored in the future of the MCU. Including a solo film for Olsen's Scarlet Witch, and a Doctor Strange 3 for Cumberbatch.

Going through the film’s production, doing reshoots, and promoting a film is obviously exhausting, and given Cumberbatch's eventful career, he is definitely entitled to a break. Luckily, Cumberbatch recently assured the fans that he loves playing Doctor Strange and has no plans to stop, revealing that he wants to play the renowned sorcerer for another decade in the MCU.
