Benedict Cumberbatch Discusses How Long He Will Play Doctor Strange in the MCU

Ever since Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange was introduced in 2016, he has become one of the major players in the MCU. He even had a pivotal role during the climactic battle in Avengers: Endgame and he is expected to continue as a player as the franchise is going through Phase Four with appearances in the upcoming films Spider-Man: No Way Home and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

There are some fans who are wondering about how long Cumberbatch will continue to play Doctor Strange in the MCU, especially with some key players who already left or will leave soon. Tom Holland even discussed recently the possibility of him retiring in the role of Spider-Man when he turns 30. Fortunately, that is not the case for the Doctor Strange actor.

Per The Direct, during an interview with USA Today, Cumberbatch discussed briefly how long will he play Doctor Strange in the MCU. He simply said, "As long as the character is interesting and challenging and doing fantastic things in the MCU, why not?"

It is great to hear that Cumberbatch will be staying long in the MCU and his quote basically hints that there's a long plan ahead for his character beyond Multiverse of Madness. It is not surprising that he might be staying longer in the MCU since he is expected to be one of the major players in the franchise as it moves past the original Avengers. It also seems that the MCU is heading into a more cosmic and multiversal director which makes him suitable as the leading player for that.

Doctor Strange will be making his next appearance on Spider-Man: No Way Home which is expected to venture into the multiverse and will also set up the events that would lead to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
