Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders Brings Back Adam West's Batman

Adam West's iconic, campy Batman is making a comeback, Entertainment Weekly reports. Adam West and Burt Ward reprise their roles as Batman and Robin in Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders. This time though, it's not live-action. Ward and West are providing voices for animated versions of their roles.

And yes, this will be done in the style of the classic TV show, if the trailer is any indication. You can see it below:

The trailer has Batman and Robin on their way to a fiery death via giant food tray, only for Batman to make a daring escape as he talks about the new movie. Batman promises the movie will have The Joker, the Riddler, The Penguin and Catwoman. They'll tussle with them "on Earth- and in space!"

The Batman TV series starring Adam West and Burt Ward ran from 1966 to 1968. It lasted three-seasons and make an indelible mark in the cultural conciousness and the comics. It was responsible for, among other thing, the introduction of Barbara Gordon as Batgilrl. Unlike modern interpretations of Batman, it was light-hearted and low budget.

Julie Newmar will reprise her role as Catwoman for the movie.. There's no work on who will be voicing the other villains. The movie will be released on Digital HD on October 11 and on Blu-ray November 1.

A lot of fans try to forget the campy era of Batman, but it's an important era in the character's history (and a fun one). The animation looks a little stiff, perhaps intentionally mirroring animation in the 60's, but I'm looking forward to seeing how this will turn out. What about you? Will you get the movie?
