Sean Murphy Gordon is Launching a New Batman Comic

Sean Gordon Murphy announced on his Twitter that he has signed a two-year exclusive contract with DC and he will be writing and drawing a new Batman comic. In addition, he will be working of All-Star Batman. You can see his first tweet about the news below:

Murphy goes on to reveal that the comic will be an eight-issue miniseries and it will be an Elseworlds story. This means it won't take place in the main continuity of the DC Universe, but rather on an alternate world. Murphy tweeted, "The Batman book I'm doing alone will be my [The Dark Knight Returns] and my Year 100—an Elseworld-like take on Batman. My attempt at an opus."

Murphy is not new to Batman comics as he is working on the current arc of All-Star Batman with Scott Snyder. He generally works as an artist and has titles like Tokyo Ghost and Chrononauts under his belt. But this isn't the first time he's pulled writer-artist double duty either. He both wrote and drew the Vertigo title Punk Rock Jesus.

Murphy says the new title will be released in 2017, though he is unsure of the exact date. I'll be interested in seeing his take on Batman. There's a ton of Batman titles out there, so it will be difficult to pull it off, but he seems to be aiming high with this project. It could very well hit its mark.
