Batman Beyond is arguably one of the greatest animated shows of all time that virtually nobody asked for when it first came out. I'm saying that because Batfans were already totally invested in Batman: The Animated Series and following its finale in the late '90s, they didn't feel the need to see a story set in a futuristic timeline.

Times have changed, of course, and fans have been clamoring for years now to see a live-action adaptation of Batman Beyond. Interestingly, people are more excited for the Bruce Wayne casting more than anything and they are unanimous with their opinion that the one and only Michael Keaton should reprise his role as the original Batman who would mentor a brand new caped crusader.

Keaton is reportedly set to make his epic comeback as The Dark Knight in Ezra Miller's The Flash along with Ben Affleck and rumors have been swirling for weeks now that Michael would end up becoming the DCEU's main Batman. That remains unconfirmed for now but if you were to ask Batman Beyond co-creator Bruce Timm, he'd love nothing more than to see Keaton star in a film inspired by the 1999 animated classic.

In a recent interview with SYFY Wire to promote Batman: Soul of the Dragon, Timm said: "Honestly, I think the idea of [Keaton] doing it is cool. Honestly, he looks a little too good. I know he's probably in his mid-60s now, but he looks pretty damn good for being over 60. I like my old Bruce Wayne to be, like, really old. But, who knows? It could certainly still work. He looks like he could kick most guys' asses."

I totally agree that Keaton is the perfect choice to play the live-action version of an older and retired Bruce Wayne. And as someone who grew up with Keaton's Batman films, I think it's only fitting that he ended his Batman journey in a project that would feature a changing of the guard. Also, we all deserve a proper closure considering his third Batman film from the '90s never saw the light of day.

The Flash is set for release in 2022.
