Mission: Impossible star Tom Cruise made headlines this week after an alleged on-set altercation with the film's crew. We reported that Cruise went on a nasty meltdown after he learned that some of Mission: Impossible 7's crew members have violated certain health and safety protocols about the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. An audio recording of the actor lashing out at the crew went viral on social media and unsurprisingly, Cruise drew flak from fans.

In the heat of the controversy, former Batman actor George Clooney is coming to the 58-year-old actor's defense. In a recent interview with Howard Stern (via People), Clooney said that Tom "didn't overreact because it is a problem." However, Clooney said that if the same thing happened to him, he would've handled the situation quite differently. "I wouldn't have done it that big. I wouldn't have, you know, pulled people out," he said. "You're in a position of power and it's tricky, right? You do have a responsibility for everybody else and he's absolutely right about that."

The Batman & Robin star continued: "And, you know if the production goes down, a lot of people lose their jobs. People have to understand that and have to be responsible. It's just not my style too, you know, to take everybody to the task that way."

I agree with Clooney's take that the situation could've been handled better but considering Tom Cruise is one of the film's producers, I guess it was only natural for him to act the way he did because if one of them caught the virus, the production would've been affected and possibly delayed and that alone would've cost them millions. Pretty sure he was only after everyone's best interest.

Mission: Impossible 7 is set for release in November 2021.
