To the surprise of many, Batgirl has been shelved by Warner Bros. even when the film is already in its post-production stage. Fans waiting for the movie's release were saddened by the studio's decision and the actress playing the titular character, Leslie Grace, finally speaks up about the cancellation.

Leslie Grace didn't even get the chance to make it on screen as Barbara Gordon in Batgirl as it was immediately canceled by Warner Bros. despite the film almost effectively finished given that it is already in the post-production stage.

After the news broke out, Leslie Grace finally speaks up about the cancellation of Batgirl and she voiced her thoughts through Instagram, "Querida familia! On the heels of the recent news about our movie Batgirl, I am proud of the love, hard work and intention all of our incredible cast and tireless crew put into this film over 7 months in Scotland."

Grace expressed her gratitude to her fans for the support that Batgirl received, "I feel blessed to have worked among absolute greats and forged relationships for a lifetime in the process! To every Batgirl fan - THANK YOU for the love and belief, allowing me to take on the cape and become, as Babs said best, 'my own damn hero!'"

In a report from Variety, Batgirl was canceled not because of its quality nor the makers of the movie but because the studio preferred to have a blockbuster scale for the whole DC slate.

Warner Bros., on the other hand, released their own statement, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter, regarding the cancellation of Batgirl, "The decision to not release Batgirl reflects our leadership's strategic shift as it relates to the DC universe and HBO Max. Leslie Grace is an incredibly talented actor and this decision is not a reflection of her performance."

Warner Bros. further expressed their gratitute to the filmmakers of the movies they canceled, "We are incredibly grateful to the filmmakers of Batgirl and Scoob! Holiday Haunt and their respective casts and we hope to collaborate with everyone again in the near future."

Directors Adil El Arbi and Billal Fallah aslo released their statement on the shocking and saddening news on Instagram, "As directors, it is critical that our work be shown to audiences, and while the film was far from finished, we wish that fans all over the world would have the opportunity to see and embrace the final film themselves."

Meanwhile, fans of Batgirl took it online to try and convince Warner Bros. to release the film with the hashtags #SaveTheBatgirlMovie and #ReleaseTheBatgirl Movie.

Leslie Grace was supposed to lead a star-studded cast as Batgirl with J.K. Simmons as James Gordon, Michael Keaton as Bruce Wayne/ Batman, Ivory Aquino as Alysia Yeoh, Jacob Scipio as Anthony Bressi, and Brendan Fraser as Ted Carson/ Firefly.

Batgirl was supposed to release this year via HBO Max.
