Back in Black! Marvel Announces Symbiote Spider-Man Series

If you missed seeing Spider-Man in the black suit then Marvel has a series made for you. The comic book publisher has announced a new mini-series called Symbiote Spider-Man, taking place during the time when Peter didn't know that his suit had a mind of its own. Interestingly enough, the series will have Spider-Man taking on the menace that is Mysterio, who may or may not be appearing in a big movie this July.

The five-issue series will be written by acclaimed comic book writer Peter David, who has had plenty of experience with the character, though most people know him for his X-Factor comics and Star Trek books. He will be joined by controversial artist Greg Land, whose art looks nice at first until you realize he re-uses the same images, especially for female characters.

Fans worrying about continuity and all that jazz need not worry, as editor Devin Lewis revealed (via Newsarama) that the series is in continuity, just set in the past. Some cynics would argue that this series is being done since Far From Home is coming out soon and Venom made a lot of money, but I digress.

"This is an in-continuity story of Peter Parker A.K.A. The Amazing Spider-Man set in the weeks he was wearing the alien symbiote costume that would later become one of his greatest foes! And all your favorites are there – Black Cat, Aunt May, The Bugle. This is classic Spider-Action in the Mighty Marvel Manner!"

Symbiote Spider-Man #1 (of 5) comes out this April.
