If there is one thing the people at Marvel Studios are really good at, it's planting seeds for future events. While not always done in a smooth manner, Marvel has been able to make a cinematic universe that doesn't feel contrived; at least when compared to competitors like DC and Dark Universe. However, sometimes fans find things that end up becoming more important to later on and those that did some backtracking found something cool.
Fans were able to spot Vormir, the planet where the Soul Stone was found, in the first Thor movie. While the planet would only be named and explored during Avengers: Infinity War, the fact that it was spotted in a movie dating back to 2011 is magnificent. The planet is also briefly seen in Thor: Ragnarok, adding another wink to fans who should be paying attention.

Crediting Marvel and their team for this might be a bit much since this was likely a happy accident that led to this. It's doubtful that Marvel Studios was planning for Thanos to appear back in 2011, though pretty much anything is possible with Marvel. The Avengers did come out in 2012, which is where Thanos debuted, so obviously some plans were made in advance.
The Soul Stone added a layer of mystery to Avengers: InfinityWar, since many thought it would debut sometime before the movie. Some fans even speculated that bits of it were used in the Black Panther movie since T'Challa did make contact with the spirit world a number of times. It ended up playing a major part in the movie since Thanos ended up killing Gamora to get the stone.
We also saw the Red Skull for the first time in years, which was interesting. His fate after the stone was taken isn't known, though it's doubtful that he will be helping out the Avengers after this.
Avengers 4 comes out on May 3, 2019.
