Avengers: Infinity War Probably Paid Tribute To 2008's Iron Man

Fans are probably still trying to unsee everything that happened in Avengers: Infinity War. However, some of the key scenes in the film may have been paying tribute to the past Marvel Cinematic Universe flicks. For instance, the shocking sequence where Thanos (Josh Brolin) stabs Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) with his own tech practically mirrored a scene from the 2008 Iron Man film.

A Reddit user has just discovered how the Infinity War sequence resembles the scene where Obadiah Stane (Jeff Bridges) attacks Tony and removes the arc reactor from his chest. The visual parallel is certainly uncanny. Check out the post below.

Interestingly, Tony would have died in the Iron Man scene if Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow) had thrown away his original reactor, the same one Yinsen (Shaun Toub) made and somehow sacrificed his life for. Tony was also destined to die in Infinity War if Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) didn't give up the Time Stone. The tiny detail makes the scene even more powerful knowing that Tony should have died twice because of his own tech but was repeatedly rescued by a sacrifice.

It is unclear if the visual parallel was intentional but this is Marvel so we're guessing it was supposed to look that way. We're just hoping that Tony's survival will prove to be Thanos' undoing in Avengers 4.

Downey will return as Iron Man in the still-untitled Avengers 4, which is scheduled for release on May 3, 2019.
