Avengers: Infinity War Directors Reveal How Thanos Murdered Drax’s Family

Marvel might have never really fully explained how Thanos killed off Drax's (Dave Bautista) family, but it looks like fans finally get to know exactly how the Guardian of the Galaxy's family dies thanks to Avengers: Infinity War's audio commentary.

Infinity War just recently rolled out on digital HD this week, and along with the film's home release are bonus features that include a director's commentary of the Avengers movie. The audio commentary of Infinity War has a lot of interesting tidbits for Marvel fans (via Screen Rant) and one of the revelations is how Thanos slaughtered Drax's family.

Fans got to learn about the warrior's tragic backstory during the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie, and in the film, Drax put the blame on Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace). However, later on, Drax figures out that Ronan was working for Thanos and eventually sets his sights on killing the Mad Titan in Avengers: Infinity War, sneaking up on Thanos when he gets the chance.

Thanks to the film's audio commentary, fans get a deeper explanation of that particular moment. Here's what the director says:

"This is a callback to Drax's history with Thanos here... His planet was treated the same way as Gamora's planet. Drax was put on one side, his family was put on the other."

That must have been terrible for Drax, getting separated from his family only to see them die on the other side. It might have initially been easier for Gamora (Zoe Saldana) because of her age at the time, but a full grown man seeing his family being shot down with his very eyes while he's lucky enough to survive – that's another story.

Avengers: Infinity War is currently available on digital HD and will be made available on Blu-Ray on August 4.
