Avengers: Infinity War Directors On That Fan Theory On Groot’s Potential Return

Warning: This article contains spoilers for Avengers: Infinity War

Though the Avengers may have tried their best, Thanos managed to collect all six Infinity Stones at the end of Avengers: Infinity War, wiping out half the universe with a single snap of his fingers.

One of those who ended up falling victim to Thanos massacre was teenage Groot (Vin Diesel), fading into dust while calling out for Rocket Racoon (Bradley Cooper). However, while many expect Groot to return along with everyone who has faded after the remaining Avengers go back in time in Avengers 4, others have a very interesting theory on how Groot could return in the sequel to Infinity War.

In one part of the film, Groot used a part of his hand to form the handle of Thor's (Chris Hemsworth) new ax, Stormbreaker. Though the weapon seems essential in dealing with Thanos, some believe that the branch that Groot used in forming Stormbreaker's ax could actually be used to help bring Groot back to life. All Rocket has to do is grow Groot again

Speaking in an interview with The Huffington Post, Infinity War directors Joe and Anthony Russo addressed the possibility of Groot respawning from the handle of Stormbreaker.

"I don't know if every piece of him that detaches ... can grow a future version of him, but who's to say? That's an interesting question," Russo told the publication.

Though the director doesn't say that it can happen, he also says that it isn't entirely possible. After all, Rocket has grown Groot from a smaller branch in Guardians of the Galaxy. It looks like the director's just trying to be coy so that he doesn't give away spoilers for Avengers4.

Avengers: Infinity War is currently screening in cinemas.
