Avengers: Infinity War Director Wants Thanos To Become The New Generation’s Darth Vader

Josh Brolin's Mad Titan serves as the Marvel Cinematic Universe's biggest threat and now that Marvel's building up towards the big battle between Thanos and the Avengers in Avengers: Infinity War, it seems like director Joe Russo hopes to turn the supervillian into an icon of the same ranks as Star Wars Darth Vader.

Last weekend during the 2017 San Diego Comic Con, Russo went on an interview with Comicbook to talk about Infinity War and in their discussions, the filmmaker revealed his intent in turning Thanos into a pop culture icon that would incite instant recognition and respect the same way Darth Vader does in Star Wars.

"The stakes are incredibly high. I wanted to turn Thanos into Darth Vader for a new generation. He's an incredibly intense character. Sociopathic. He takes no prisoners. I think the audience needs to be prepared when they go see these movies."

Thanos is a pretty big bad and while everyone's certainly excited to see the smash down between the Mad Titan and more than sixty Marvel heroes, fans still have to see whether Brolin's supervillain would rise to the level of Vader. It's a tall order considering how easily the Sith Lord can draw in people, but who knows, the Russo brother's might be able to pull it off.

Avengers: Infinity War premieres May 4, 2018.
