Avengers: Endgame Fan Theory Names The Threat Greater Than Thanos

Josh Brolin's Thanos might be the major villain in Avengers: Endgame, however, rumors have started circulating saying that the film might actually have a threat much greater than the Mad Titan.

Now, a new fan theory names this threat, pointing towards a villain that Marvel fans got to meet when they first came across Benedict Cumberbatch's Master of the Mystic Arts in Doctor Strange. There's been a whole lot of talk about Endgame on Reddit, and according to a new theory posted by /u/ak2usp,Doctor Strange's Dormammu just might return to Earth.

Marvel fans who've seen Doctor Strange might remember that Mads Mikkelsen's Kaecilius summoned Dormammu to Earth in a quest for power. While Doctor Strange was able to outwit the ruler of the "Dark Dimension" at the end of the film, Dormammu may very well return to Earth knowing that the Sorcerer Supreme has been reduced to a pile of dust.

While the theory has yet to be confirmed by Marvel, Dormammu's return seems very likely. The Avengers main focus in Endgame might be to undo the massacre that Thanos inflicted in Avengers: Infinity War, but honestly, what fun would it be if the team had it easy. Why not throw in another cosmic baddie to add some thrill?

For the past few months, fans have been speculating that Marvel might place in a larger threat in Endgame, and if you think about it, it'd make sense that this threat is a villain that Marvel's already introduced. After all, Endgame is supposed to be the culmination of the past ten years of the MCU.

Avengers: Endgame premieres April 26, 2019.
