Avengers: Endgame Editor Reveals the 'Insane' Unused Takes of Iron Man’s Scene With Thanos

Iron Man's (Robert Downey, Jr.) final scene together with Thanos (Josh Brolin) was one of the most unforgettable scenes in Avengers: Endgame. The Avengers were trying their hardest to take Infinity Gauntlet off of the Mad Titan in the film, and thanks to his cunning, Tony Stark managed to get take the weapon off of Thanos' hands.

Speaking in an interview with Collider to talk about the process of creating the incredible Endgame sequence, Marvel editor Jeff Ford reveals the work that went into creating that moment between Iron Man and Thanos in the movie. During the discussion, the editor also revealed that directors Joe and Anthony Russo had actually shot a number of different performances of the moment, some of which were downright crazy.

"When we were putting together the end of the movie, when we shot Tony's last moment in the first round, we shot a bunch of different options. Robert [Downey, Jr.] had different ideas…We give him space to do that," Ford explained in the interview, "Joe and Anthony [Russo] are great about improv. We shot a run of different performances for that last moment. Some of them were crazy. Some of them we would never have used."

During the discussion, McFeely described some of the unused footage. According to the screenwriter, some of the sequences contained jokes while others were obscenities. Despite all the levity, McFeely says that some of the extra scenes were actually "completely emotional, raw, insane things that he was doing.

It looks like the Russo Brothers really took a lot of time to help Robert Downey, Jr. reach the scene that he wanted between Iron Man and Thanos – which isn't really a surprise given how important Tony Stark is to the franchise.

Avengers: Endgame is currently available on Digital HD, Blu-Ray, and DVD.
