A new scoop has provided an update on Marvel Studios' director search for Avengers 5 and it looks like they are taking an unusual approach to finding a filmmaker.
Shang-Chi director Destin Daniel Cretton was originally attached to helm the film, but he eventually dropped out to focus on other projects such as the Wonder Man series and the long-gestated Shang-Chi sequel.
Fans have been looking forward to finding out which new director will Marvel Studios hire to helm the project that will serve as one of the culminating films in the Multiverse Saga.

Avengers 5 is Eyeing a Director Who Has Never Helmed a Marvel Movie
Reporter Jeff Sneider claimed in The Hot Mic podcast that Marvel Studios is looking for a director who has never directed a Marvel movie to helm Avengers 5 (fka Avengers: The Kang Dynasty).
He also added that the film is planning to begin production early next year ahead of its scheduled release in 2026.
So far, Marvel Studios has not confirmed the claims that Sneider made in his report.
If the scoop ends up being true, it is an interesting approach that Marvel Studios is taking since it could be an indication that they want a fresh approach for the next Avengers movie.
It is a similar approach to the first Avengers movie where Joss Whedon, who did not direct any of the MCU solo movies prior, was tapped to helm the project.
However, for Infinity War and Endgame, Marvel Studios tapped the Russo Brothers (who worked on the last two Captain America films) to direct the culminating movies of the Infinity Saga.
There is a possibility that we will finally hear a name in the coming months since Marvel Studios is eager to keep the project going and it is curious to see whether that name will indeed be someone who has not made a mark in the Marvel Universe yet.
Avengers 5 is scheduled for release in theaters on May 1, 2026.
