Avatar Sequels will Cost $1 Billion to Make

After Avengers: Endgame became the highest-grossing movie in history, James Cameron is going to attempt to retake the title with the upcoming Avatar sequels. There are actually 4 more films in the works, and it looks like each of them will cost as much as the first movie.

According to Deadline, the four upcoming Avatar films have a combined budget of more than a billion dollars; the first movie actually cost $237 million, and if you multiply that by four, you have something close to a billion.

If anything, the first Avatar made a lot of money with its investment, and it gained more than $2 billion at the box office. While I think the first sequel is going to bring in an audience, I think the reception for the next three films will be left up in the air. We'll just have to wait and see what people think of Avatar 2 first.

By the looks of it, it seems that Cameron is pretty set on finishing these next four films even if Avatar 2 doesn't do too well. It's certainly a big gamble, but Cameron has time on his side. While multiple superhero films have limited time for development and production, Cameron has always managed to wow audiences with his movies because his productions always take their time. Sure they may go over budget, but Cameron has managed to deliver every single time. Let's hope he's still got it when it comes to his next film.

The first sequel to Avatar is set to come out Dec. 16, 2021.
