Avatar and Planet of the Apes Will Be the Main Focus of Disney's Fox Properties


You'd think that the people at Disney would be content with the money made from their films, along with the box office success of Marvel and Star Wars movies. However, the company is far from content, as their recent purchase of Fox has proven. Aside from bringing the X-Men and Fantastic Four to the MCU, Disney will soon be prioritizing two big franchises from Fox: Avatar and Planet of the Apes.

According to a report from Variety, Disney has re-evaluated some of Fox's film slate after a big third-quarter loss, which a lot of people are blaming on X-Men: Dark Phoenix. Since Disney can't just rely on Marvel and Star Wars, it makes sense for them to focus on Avatar and Planet of the Apes, the former of which was once the highest-grossing film worldwide.

Considering how James Cameron has already finished working on two of the Avatar sequels, it's easy to see why Disney would want them to push through. After all, if the first film was able to become the highest-grossing movie in the world at one point, why not try for similar success for the sequels? The first sequel, Avatar 2, is slated for a December 18, 2020 release. Avatar 3 will be coming out the year after, on December 17, 2021.
