James Cameron’s ultimate goal for his Avatar sequel, Avatar: The Way of Water is about to come true. With Avatar 2 getting its theatrical release in China, and garnering positive reviews from cast members and audiences alike, it looks like Cameron’s dream to secure a box office record for the sequel is underway as the film is nominated in the Golden Globe 2023 ahead of its release.

The director has been quite worried about the amount of money they spent on the sequel, thinking that hitting the box office would be the only way to ‘break even,’ especially since he has not only planned for a threequel, but Avatar 4 and Avatar 5, as well, with the fifth featuring the Na’vi arriving on earth.

There is no doubt that Avatar: The Way of Water is one of the most highly anticipated films this year, as it has been delayed far too many times. With Cameron’s advocacy that ‘CGI is not dead,’ The Way of Water is currently competing with Tom Cruise’s Top Gun: Maverick for Best Picture – Drama, according to CBR.com.

Top Gun: Maverick may have been Paramount’s highest-grossing domestic release and the first movie to top at box office on Memorial Day Weekend and Labor Day Weekend, but Avatar: The Way of Water still has a chance to catch up upon its release this month.
