As usual, the plot details remain under wraps although we have heard plenty of information for the past few months thanks to the spoilers that have leaked from the various scoops and the cast members themselves.

A report from Mashable has confirmed that Agatha: Coven of Chaos cast member Aubrey Plaza is playing the role of Rio Vidal, an original new character that was created for the series.

This is the first time that we heard a confirmation surrounding Plaza's role whose character was being kept under wraps prior to this reveal. In the initial casting report, her role was described as the series' main villain.

Aside from Plaza, the outlet also reported that Sasheer Zamata is playing the role of Jennifer Kale, an existing character from the comics who usually shows up in the Man-Thing issues.

"I definitely did do as much [comic book] research as I could, but the way we formed this character is very different from what I think people expect," she told Mashable regarding her character.

The report also revealed that Joe Locke's Billy Kaplan and Miles Gutierrez-Riley's Hulkling will be introduced as a couple in the series just like in the comics. This marks another step for LGBTQ+ representation in the MCU.

After months of speculation surrounding the Emmy-nominated actress' role in the MCU, it is exciting to see that we finally have a confirmation and it is intriguing that her character is not someone that we know from the comics.

We don't know yet why Marvel Studios decided to have an original character as the main villain of the series, but it won't be their first rodeo in introducing a major character that doesn't have an origin in the comics (a notable example is Phil Coulson).

It is interesting how Plaza's villainous role will play into the story of the series and what kind of performance she will give as Rio Vidal, especially as she faces off against Agatha.

Agatha: Coven of Chaos is slated to premiere on Disney+ in 2024.
