If you have been following Attack on Titan, there is a huge chance that you now believe that Reiner Braun has an intense hatred of Eren Yeager. After all, they have always clashed from the start and faced off yet again in the premiere episode of Season 4 Part 2. However, it looks like hate isn't exactly what Reiner feels for Eren. Voice actor Yoshimasa Hosoya has revealed that his character somehow relates to the anime's protagonist!
In the anime, Reiner Braun was introduced as the main antagonist in the first two seasons and he would later get an epic rematch with Eren in Attack on Titan Season 4 Part 2. However, Yoshimasa Hosoya says that the relationship between the two is a little more complicated than we think.
In a recent interview, Hosoya spoke about voicing Reiner and opened up about what his character truly feels about Eren now that we have reached The Final Season of Attack on Titan.
"When I was dubbing Reiner, I got the feeling that he was being considerate for Eren this time. It's a little hard to explain, but I think Reiner can sense when Eren is shining," Hosoya said. "I think Reiner always felt that Eren was a madman who was always eager to excel. And because he was a role model, he also tried to pretend he was always doing his best."
It's an interesting insight into how Reiner views the man who was once one of his victims and is now a real danger that he must stop. With that in mind, fans may see Reiner in a different light in the upcoming episodes of The Final Season.
Attack on Titan Season 4 Episode 19 is titled Two Brothers ("Ani to Ototo"), which is also the title of Chapter 119 from the manga. Episode 78 will air on Monday, January 24, 2022, at 12:05 AM JST.
