There is little doubt that Attack on Titan Season 4 Part 2 puts a lot of importance in the future following last week's shocking revelation. However, Episode 80 also took a step back to revisit history and reveal the Founding Titan's shocking origins!

In Attack on Titan Episode 80, Zeke Yeager finally confronted his brother after they were brought back from Grisha Yeager's memories. Zeke tells Eren Yeager that their father had begged him to stop his brother's plan and orders Ymir to continue with his own sterilization plan.

The little girl immediately makes her way to the Coordinates but the chained Eren hasn't given up yet. He uses all his strength to break away from the shackles, severing his own thumbs in the process in the attempt to stop Ymir.

But how can Eren possibly stop Ymir from following Zeke's orders? We are shown the memories of a slave girl whose village was conquered by Fritz. As a slave, Ymir is blamed for letting a pig escape and she is hunted down to be killed but she falls into a tree where the source of all life attaches to her and turns her into the first Titan.

Fritz recognizes her potential as a powerful weapon and uses her in the fight against the Marleyans. He also has three daughters with Ymir and when a soldier tries to assassinate Fritz, she sacrifices herself to save him. Even then, Ymir is butchered and fed to her daughters as Fritz attempts to pass the Titan's powers down his bloodline.

It's a shockingly tragic story and one that Eren takes advantage of as well. He urges Ymir to break away from her slavery, giving her the freedom to choose what she wants to do. She chooses to work with him and the Rumbling begins.

Attack on Titan Season 4 Episode 22 is titled Thaw ("Hyokai") which is also the title of Chapter 124 of the manga. Episode 81 will be delayed due to the Winter Olympics coverage and will air on Monday, February 14, 2022, at 12:25 AM JST.
