The best thing about the return of Attack on Titan Season 4 is that it finally answered some questions from the first half of The Final Season. For instance, Part 2 didn't hold back as it immediately addressed what happened to Levi Ackerman and Zeke Yeager after the Thunder Spear was ignited in Episode 74.
In Attack on Titan Season 4 Episode 15, Zeke recalls his past while dealing with the intense pain of being impaled by the Thunder Spear to a cart as Levi hacks off his legs. The episode pretty much revealed how Zeke inherited the Beast Titan and why it was important for him to prevent Eren from being brainwashed by Grisha. Sole Salvation concludes with Zeke igniting the Thunder Spear with Levi still in the cart.
So what happened to Levi and Zeke? Although the first half of the Final Season didn't address it in the finale, it's the first thing we learn in Attack on Titan Episode 76. Judgement opens with Hange finding Levi's body and claiming he is dead. Suddenly, Zeke emerges unscathed from the remains of a dying Titan nearby, distracting the Jaegerist and allowing Hange to escape with Levi's body.
Zeke is unbothered by the escape and reveals that he was restored by a mysterious girl in a mystical place known as the "Paths." But now, he's ready to find Eren Yeager so their plans can finally be put in motion.
It's depressing to have Levi's dead body being the first thing we see in Attack on Titan Season 4 Part 2. However, something greater is happening in the anime and we can't wait to see what will happen next.
Attack on Titan Season 4 Part 2 Episode 2 is titled Sneak Attack ("Damashi Uchi") which is a clear reference to the manga's Chapter 118. The 77th episode of the anime will premiere on Monday, January 17, 2022, at 12:05 AM JST.
