Since its release last year, the League of Legends animated series Arcane got lots of praise from critics, fans, and creators alike. Recently, even the Attack on Titan composer heaped praise on Arcane.
Hiroyuki Sawano, the music composer for Attack on Titan, was recently interviewed by Shion Tsurubo of the Japanese boy group, JO1. The interview was published on Comic Natalie, and it featured the two sharing their insight into music production.
In case you’re unfamiliar, Sawano is a well-known music composer and producer.
He has composed a wide range of anime aside from Attack on Titan, including Kill la Kill, The Seven Deadly Sins, and Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn. He is also the composer of the upcoming Solo Leveling anime.
Meanwhile, Tsurubo is a notable anime fan who is also interested in creating music for anime shows.
In their interview, Tsurubo asked Sawano about some tips, as well as his favorite soundtracks from recent movies and shows.
Sawano mentioned that while he works on a lot of anime, he spends a lot of his free time watching foreign movies and TV shows. Among the ones he watched is Arcane.
The Attack on Titan composer said that Arcane’s soundtrack is cool and that the show’s story is interesting. Overall, he said that it is overall quite a cool show.
Arcane’s soundtrack is an eclectic mix of genres, featuring popular artists with tracks that have a lot of digital elements. This appealed to Sawano’s tastes.
Aside from Arcane, Sawano also mentioned that Christopher Nolan’s Tenet had a good soundtrack as well. While he is a Hans Zimmer fan, Sawano said that the composer Ludwig Goransson did well to craft the film’s soundtrack.
Music aside, the series has also been shown love by other creators, including the likes of Hideo Kojima who called it “the future of animation.”
Arcane is an animated series by Fortiche Productions based on Riot Games’ League of Legends. The show’s first season was a big hit, so much so that Riot and Netflix renewed it for a second season.
