Telecommunications giant AT&T announced a groundbreaking merger between WarnerMedia and Discovery and the new company is expected to go head-to-head with media juggernauts Netflix and Disney in terms of content when it finally arrives. According to Discovery CEO David Zaslav, who was appointed to lead the new company formed by the merger (via ComicBook) the new post-merger entity which is expected to reveal its official name sometime this week would be spending $20 billion on new content, that's more than Netflix's $17 billion budget from last year.
Now, as exciting as the merger sounds, tipster Grace Randolph is taking to Twitter to reveal plans following the merger which were initially unbeknownst to fans. According to her, AT&T is determined to banish WarnerMedia from existence for reasons that are still unclear at this point. She also boldly claims that it will make the Disney and Fox merger seem like it's not that much of a big deal. Check out her statement below:
It'll be interesting how things will play out in the coming days and weeks when the merger is finally made official. As it stands, we virtually have no clue what happens to all of the shows and properties the company currently carries. But if anything, AT&T potentially getting rid of WarnerMedia could spell promising news for a lot of DC Extended Universe fans who have been calling for the restoration of the SnyderVerse.
I mean, it's well documented that WB has always been against the idea in the first place and AT&T could change all that. WarnerMedia's future DCEU slate is already set in stone but imagine if the new merger foils all plans that have already been established by Walter Hamada and his crew. What will happen?
Meanwhile, Zack Snyder's Justice League is still streaming on HBO Max.
