AT&T Reportedly Closing DC Comics If Ever 5G Event Fails

Last weekend, DC fans were meet with the surprising news that long-time DC Comics co-publisher Dan DiDio had just exited the comic book publication.

Now, after the news has begun making its way online, new reports suggest that AT&T have other plans for DC Comics.

According to a report by Cosmic Book News, AT&T plans to close down DC Comics if the company's upcoming 5G event fails. The 5G DC Comic Book event would be the fifth generation reboot of DC which would provide fans with a "contemporary" take on classic DC characters.

Taking to YouTube, Former Green Lantern and DC Comics artist Ethan Van Sciver reveals the latest news after reports of DiDio's departure – AT&T plans to close the DC comic book publication if ever DC's 5G comic book event fails.

"Understand. It doesn't mean the characters are going to go anywhere. Batman, of course, is a prized possession of AT&T now. AT&T is Batman, and they are going to keep putting out movies and product and toys and all that stuff," Van Sciver said in a video posted on YouTube. "Comic books are dead and they are going to close up the publishing house soon. I'll tell you that a professional who I spoke to recently said, 'Yeah, I was talking to one of the higher-ups at DC Comics who said that if 5G doesn't work out, that's it, AT&T is closing the publishing arm.' So this is ball game."

News that AT&T is thinking of shutting down DC Comics isn't entirely new. In September last year, word came out that the company was considering selling off DC Comics. While we have yet to receive confirmation about AT&T's plans for the comic book publication, it doesn't seem like the company is too happy with DC Comics, having just recently fired DiDio.

Let's hope that the company reconsiders its decision to sell off DC Comics.
