Aquaman’s Jason Momoa In Talks To Join Denis Villeneuve’s Dune Reboot

It looks like production on Denis Villeneuve's Dune reboot is doing pretty well. The new live-action adaptation of Frank Herbert's science fiction classic has been filling up its cast list with some pretty solid heavy-hitters. Not only has Dune recently tapped Marvel's Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame star Josh Brolin, but word has it that the film's casting team is currently in negotiations with Aquaman's Jason Momoa.

According to a new report by Variety, Momoa is currently in talks to join Dune. While the film's main cast has already been selected, Herbert's readers know that there are still a lot of characters that the film can cast for. If Momoa decides to join the film, the Aquaman star will be joining other Hollywood A-listers like Oscar Isaac, Timothee Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem, Dave Bautista, Stellan Skarsgard, and Zenday.

Dune wants Momoa to play the role of Duncan Idaho, a swordsmaster in the house of Atreides. Idaho is the right-hand man to Chalamet's father who is to be played by Isaac.

For those who aren't familiar with the original source material, Dune is described as a film that follows the story of "Paul Atreides (Timothee Chalamet), whose family assumes control of the desert planet Arrakis. As the only producer of a highly valuable resource, jurisdiction over Arrakis is contested among competing noble families. After Atreides is betrayed, he leads a rebellion to restore his family's reign."

The Dune novels have been considered seminal stories in the field of science fiction. The books have been previously brought to life by David Lynch in a Dune film in 1984.

Now there's a whole lot of expectation set on Dune and it looks like Villeneuve isn't afraid to up the ante at all.

Dune doesn't have a set release date just yet but we'll update everyone as soon as we get word.
