It's no secret that people have been calling on Warner Bros. to fire Amber Heard from Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom after her controversial legal battle against ex-husband Johnny Depp. However, it looks like the studio has no intention of dropping the Justice League star despite all the protests.
Aquaman 2 producer Peter Safran is currently promoting for The Suicide Squad and he was recently a guest on the DeadlineHero Nationpodcast. Interestingly, Safran revealed that they were well aware of the petitions and social media posts. However, the producers and the studio have decided that they will not give in to the pressure.
"I don't think we're ever going to react to, honestly, pure fan pressure," Safran said. "You gotta do what's best for the movie. We felt that if it's James Wan, and Jason Momoa, it should be Amber Heard. That's really what it was."
Safran continued by pointing out that there are things that fans cannot sway.
"One is not unaware of what is going on in the Twitter-verse, but that doesn't mean you have to react to it or take it as gospel or accede to their wishes," he said. "You have to do what's right for the film, and that's really where we landed on it."
This is disappointing news for fans who have been campaigning for Heard's removal from Aquaman 2. However, it is also proof that fans don't get to make the final decision when it comes to big projects like this.
Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom will be directed by James Wan and will star Heard, Jason Momoa, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. The film is scheduled for release on December 16, 2022.
