The Apothecary Diaries: A Colorful Court Anime With a Spirited Heroine
The Apothecary Diaries is a great show that fans of slice-of-life and historical anime with a healthy dose of court drama are going to adore.
Maomao, a 17-year-old girl in ancient China, is working in the imperial court as an indentured servant.
Throughout her hardships, the young girl maintains her indomitable, pragmatic spirit as she waits for her years of servitude to pass.
When the emperor's two infant children fall ill, Maomao uses her knowledge as a pharmacist from a poor red-light district to solve the mystery.
Following her success, a high-ranking eunuch recognized her gift in medicine and gave her a place in the inner court, where she would solve many medical mysteries.

What Is The Apothecary Diaries' Episode Count?
The Apothecary Diaries is confirmed to have a total of 24 episodes, so fans of Maomao's charming personality will have plenty to look forward to! The first six episodes' Blu-ray is on its way too.
The light novel by Natsu Hyuuga, of which The Apothecary Diaries is an adaptation, currently has 14 volumes.
Meanwhile, the manga adaptation has 12 volumes, with more to come in the future.
This makes a longer season absolutely possible since there is a lot of material to cover.
The Apothecary Diaries premiered in late October 2023 with the anime's first three episodes being released at once.
From there on, a new episode is released each week. The show is expected to run for two cours with no breaks in between.
Can We Expect More Episodes of The Apothecary Diaries Later?
Right now, it's too early to tell if more episodes of The Apothecary Diaries will be created, but things are looking good for the anime.
Its stunning trailer, which perfectly encapsulates the main character's personality, went viral on TikTok and other platforms when it first dropped.
Since then, many anime fans have been keen to watch Maomao's adventures. Moreover, there are several volumes that could be adapted in the future.
It's hard to imagine how such a premise can escape the episodic format and become a pop culture phenomenon, but we're keen to find out!
