AOA Chanmi shared how GIRL'S RE:VERSE changed her career as an idol.

Chanmi is one of the 30 active female K-pop idols who were tapped to play virtual idols' roles in the virtual world of GIRL'S RE:VERSE.

Kakao Entertainment created the survival show and offered a virtual competition among idols. Recently, it lost one of its competitors after LOONA's Olivia Hye quit due to health reasons.

The 29 remaining members, especially Chanmi, continue as the program inspires them in different ways.

In the virtual competition, Chanmi plays the role of the avatar named Dohwa. The character, however, failed to make it to the next round.

In an interview with The Korea Times via video chat on Jan. 19, the AOA member revealed she joined the program to do what she does best.

"When I was doing group activities with fellow members, it was important to find what suits all of us," she explained. "The focus was more on what we all do best. But in the virtual world, my priority was whatever I wanted to do, and what I do the best."

Chanmi talked about the freedom they have to create the visuals of their avatars' performances. For her part, she made her character based on the elements she wanted when she performed in person.

Chanmi debuted in 2012 with AOA members. They were able to release hit songs, including Miniskirt, Like a Cat, Good Luck, Short Hair, and Excuse Me, to name a few, before it lost most of its members.

Chanmi Opens Up About Responsibility While Participating in the Show

When asked about her experience in GIRL'S RE:VERSE, Chanmi shared how it became a refreshing experience in her 12-year music career.

"I tend to value doing something new," Chanmi continued. "Because it's been a while since I debuted, I've gotten dull when it comes to new formats or activities. And I felt that a virtual debut could be a new motivation. It's not that I'm leaving behind the career I've had until now, but I felt like I could add on this new experience (onto my career) so I gladly joined the show."

The K-pop idol also noted that the show made her realize that there are prejudice and bias in the industry. But after joining the show, she realized the world now recognizes everyone regardless of their agency.
