It looks like Kevin Feige is still on the lookout for new directors. It has just been confirmed that the Marvel Studios president is setting up a meeting with The Magnificent Seven filmmaker Antoine Fuqua.
There have been speculations that Fuqua was the top choice to direct Sony's Morbius film. However, the project landed on Daniel Espinosa's lap. Interestingly, Fuqua has confirmed with Hey U Guys that he was asked to helm the Jared Leto movie. In addition to that, he is already scheduled for a meeting with Feige on possibly directing a future Marvel flick.
"Sony asked me to do Morbius," the director confessed before adding, "I'm going to have a meeting with Kevin soon…Just talking."
So is it possible that Fuqua will actually take on a Marvel film? The Training Day director shared that he is looking for the right project since joining the franchise could be a daunting task.
"For me, it has to be the right one, in the right situation because there's so much visual effects going on and – ‘Where's the director in it all?' I need to understand it because it's like management…they have a machine, they've got people, there's the design, the whole thing is sketched out ... Is the director doing that? Or is it a hundred other people?"
It is still unclear which Marvel film Fuqua will be discussing with Feige. Although some fans are expecting that they could negotiate about Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, it is possible that Feige has something else in mind for the Southpaw director.
Fuqua's most recent project was The Equalizer 2, the sequel to the 2014 Denzel Washington film.
