Anthony Daniels Says C-3PO's Red Eyes Are Important To Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker Storyline

There is little doubt that the most recent teaser for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker had people talking about Dark Rey. However, the footage that debuted at the D23 Expo 2019 also gave us a glimpse at C-3PO's new look, which is all about red eyes. Interestingly, Anthony Daniels says those new features are important and will be a major part of Episode IX's storyline.

Daniels recently spoke to The Star Wars Show, where he discussed Threepio's glowing red eyes in the Rise of Skywalker teaser. The Star Wars alum confirmed that the new look is part of a surprising revelation about his character in Episode IX.

"That was so weird, because they had rigged me up with a special thing, and to look at myself in the mirror, it was scary," Daniels said. "It's a magnificent piece of storytelling that really took me by surprise."

This is certainly an interesting development for Threepio, who has spent most of his time in the Skywalker Saga as a mere bystander. Luckily, it looks like it's finally time for the protocol droid to play a larger role in the main storyline.

We're still unsure what exactly is happening to C-3PO in The Rise of Skywalker but there have been speculations that the droid that appeared in the teaser is actually a different droid. Nevertheless, it looks like Daniels has confirmed that it is definitely Threepio in the footage.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will hit theaters on December 20.
