Anthony Daniels Responds to Star Wars Fans Worrying Over C-3PO

Star Wars fans couldn't help but express their concern for C-3PO after seeing the first full trailer for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Anthony Daniels' golden communications protocol droid might have been in almost every Star Wars film since A New Hope's release in 1977, however, C-3PO's little comment in the trailer has fans worrying about his fate in Episode IX.

Speaking in an interview with Radio Times to talk about his new autobiography, I Am C-3PO, Daniels opens up about the new trailer that Lucasfilm released for The Rise of Skywalker.

"Well, it got me on the set too, saying those lines," Daniels revealed, "It did feel very sad."

In the trailer, we get to see C-3PO getting himself fixed up by the alien, Babu Frik, a "tiny Anzellan droidsmith" who "works among the Spice Runners Kijimi and can reprogram or modify virtually any droid – regardless of the security measures protecting its systems." Walking in on the operation, Poe (Oscar Isaac) asks the droid what he's up to and C-3PO tells him that he's taking "one last look, sir...at (his) friends."

It's a worrisome line. What's going to happen to C-3PO in Episode IX?

"I've seen a few reactions. I've been busy, but on Twitter, people have reacted very lovingly, so that's nice," the actor explains, "People do relate to Threepio because he has a kind of vulnerability, a fragility if you will, that makes you want to take care of him. And for many people, he has been such a part of their family, for all these years, that anything that is slightly [touching it] is going to affect them."

C-3PO has been an important part of the Star Wars family ever since he was first introduced in A New Hope. Sure, the droid might be a bit naggy sometimes, but that's all part of his charm. It would break our hearts to bits if anything happened to C-3PO in The Rise of Skywalker. But then again, Episode IX is going to mark the end of the Skywalker saga, so fans should probably get ready for a little heartbreak here and there.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premieres December 20, 2019.
