Ant-Man 3: Kang Seemingly Rules Out Wanda Maximoff’s MCU Return

Kang the Conqueror is taking Thanos’ place as the new MCU big baddie this Marvel Phase Five. Jonathan Majors has already reiterated this Kang variant is different from the Kang we met in the Loki Season 1 finale, and one of the things that makes this Kang even scarier is not just his ruthless demeanor against the Avengers, but in pushing away the possibility of Wanda Maximoff ever returning to the MCU.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania star Jonathan Majors just revealed another major thing about Kang the Conqueror in a recent io9 interview, which involves one significant hint between the new MCU villain with Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff. Check out Majors’ full quote below:

“Who is Kang? I think that is a question that we will all be answering for a very long time.” Majors said, “I think the quick answer to that is: Kang is a time traveling super villain. Who is also a Nexus Being. Which leads to this idea of variants. They occupy different universes, multi-verses, they have different intentions. They are all different beings, and yet something that we’re still [and I’m] working on and continue to refine and refine to something as a throughline between them. And that, to me, is the Kang gene.”

You might remember the concept of Nexus existing in the MCU, which was first introduced in WandaVision on Disney+, but was soon forgotten to be mentioned afterwards. See, only one Nexus Being can supposedly live in one given reality at a time. In WandaVision’s case, Wanda was the first Nexus being.

Seeing as Wanda was killed in Doctor Strange in Multiverse of Madness, the reality commonly known to us as the 616 universe, Kang the Conqueror now poses the threat of taking over the Nexus role.

Wanda’s MCU return has always been teased since the production of the WandaVision spinoff, Agatha: Coven of Chaos. However, given a previous report stating that Wanda is NOT involved in the project, along with the idea that only one Nexus Being can live in one form of reality, it remains to be seen how the Scarlet Witch could possibly return.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania hits theaters on February 17, 2023.
